This excursion offers up plenty of
surprises. You’ll visit the glacier known locally as the Ventisquero
Negro. That’s where the Manso River is born on the slopes of Mt.
Tronador and begins its journey. Down the east slope of Tronador,
it heads towards the Atlantic Ocean before changing its mind and
turning west back into the Andes. At Los Alerces Falls, the Manso
turns southeast again out of the Andes, but when it meets the Villegas
River, the Manso turns again west, back to the mountains. It crosses
the Andes and ends up in the Pacific Ocean.
Although
it’s Argentina, this area is part of the Pacific Coast, not the
Atlantic! It is one of the best and most fascinating places to
observe the watershed that splits South America. Between Gutierrez
and Mascardi Lakes, the placard reads Divisoria de Aguas or “Continental
Divide”.
Not only will you visit forests, lakes, beaches, mountains and
waterfalls with incredible landscapes. You’ll also witness the
complex puzzles of nature. These are the special twists on a day
where nature shows its magic.
