Departing from Puerto Pañuelo, we head
towards the Blest Arm of Nahuel Huapi Lake, passing in front of
Centinela Island, where the final resting place of the beloved Francisco
“Perito” Moreno, the Father of Argentina’s National Parks system.
After an hour on board, we arrive at Puerto Cántaros to head
into the temperate rainforest of a Valdivian Forest. The trail takes
us up to Los Cántaros Lake, past its namesake falls en route.
Lookouts next to the trail offer chances to soak up the wonders
of the falls as it cascades over the rocks.
After
crossing to the opposite shore, we disembark at Puerto Blest and
board a bus for a 3-km trip to Puerto Alegre on the shores of
Frías Lake. We board another boat for a journey on this
emerald and crystal-clear lake surrounded by lush forests and
nestled beneath the imposing white summit of Mt. Tronador. We
travel as far as Puerto Frías.
(With advance notice, there is an option to continue
as far as Peulla, located on the shores of Todos los Santos Lake
in Chile.)
